Choosing a reverse-osmosis membrane is not about picking the most expensive element — it is about matching rejection, permeate flow, feed salinity and operating pressure to your water and budget.

Start with your feed water

Get a full water analysis: TDS, hardness, silica, iron, SDI and temperature. Salinity and fouling potential decide which membrane grade you need.

Match rejection to your target

High-rejection elements (99.5%+) suit high-TDS or strict product specs; low-energy elements give acceptable rejection at lower pressure and save electricity on clean, low-salinity feed.

Sizing permeate flow

Each 8-inch element has a rated permeate flow at standard conditions. Divide your target production by the element flow to size the train, then check recovery and concentrate limits.

Check pressure and recovery

High recovery saves water but raises scaling risk. Confirm antiscalant dosing and that the membrane's maximum pressure fits your pump and vessel rating.
